Baptism

What Is Baptism?

Baptism is an outward, physical sign of an inward, spiritual reality.

Baptism is the act of being immersed, or dipped completely, in water as a symbol of identification with Jesus’ death and resurrection. Baptism does not save us, but instead, it is an act that tells the world we have been saved by Jesus Christ and expresses our commitment to follow him as part of his Body.

Baptism symbolizes two things:
  • Participation in the death of Christ. Lowered into the water, we are admitting that our sinful self is being put to death, we are declaring that Jesus has paid the penalty of death for us and we are physically displaying the cleansing of our souls from sin.
  • Participation in the resurrection of Christ.  Raised out of the water, we too are raised to new life with Christ forevermore and declare our commitment to follow him on the path of obedience as part of the Body of Christ on earth.
We understand baptism to be the one-time act of faith given by God to celebrate entrance into His family and therefore require baptism for Membership.

It is not our practice to baptize infants or children before middle school.
